I feel like I ought to warn folk, this fic o’ mine is not getting ‘tightened up’ in any sense of the term. One of the problems I have with my early chapters is the racing from canon plot point to canon plot point to get to the shmexy OTP tiems. Now there is so much Avalanche bonding I should invest in Elmer’s. Not too sure how it will all go once I give it a final proofread, but that’s on hold till I Get. It. Done.

The catch that spark approach? Just netted me 2500+words in a couple of hours, and only just shy of proper polish too. Makes up for struggling with the word count targets all week.

Going through the OG script to keep certain canon details in order and I am loving the insinuation that Aeris suspected Yuffie was a little shady from the start. Makes sense, Flowergirl was making her way around the slums, and running from Turks. She would have an eye for who’s up to no good. God, I hope the remake doesn’t take her street smarts and sass from her. It’s easy to be angelic and calm when you have everything you ever wanted in the afterlife, but that’s not all that living Aeris was.

Aside from that, it seems my subconscious once again had connected some plot dots long ago that I only just figured out myself. I’d been writing something as a given without realizing there is a perfectly good canon explanation for it. I wish I was as smart as the back of my mind.

Trying to crank out a little ficlet to free up the writing juice and get mired in the realization that I need to do more architecture and reconstruction. You’d think this would be easy enough with a ready-made world but then you go and make changes to it and need to take them into account. Nuts.

Cons: didn’t meet my word count goal last night.

Pros: smoothed out a scene that wasn’t flowing right.

YES! Chapter three of the rewrite is finally hammered into shape. Stubborn old goat of a chapter, and it’s done. One final small achievement for this horrenderful mixed bag of a year.

I’ve been taking a hammer to chapter three for I don’t know how long and I think I finally have the rewrite version sorted out in my head. I hate being stuck on details. By the time I finish this thing I’ll be writing for an audience of one.

It’s been an hour and I’ve settled on two recipes, measured a couch, researched poultry care, picked out the pattern of the tea service that’s relevant three quarters of the way through the sequel, and written 100 words of the actual fic.
