I remember back when I was a kid being alone in my bedroom playing on my best friend’s copy of FF7, and then THAT happened, and just the feeling of complete and utter shock that a videogame would just KILL OFF A MAIN CHARACTER. WHO DOES THAT?? I asked myself. HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO US?
Fast forward a to grownup me being stuck in traffic and listening to my (super duper old) Final Fantasy orchestral music CD, then mentally being thrown back to that moment in time. I knew I had to try to draw it, and how even though Aerith leaves you in the game, she is still always with you because she becomes part of the lifestream, the life of the planet (which is a green color in the game).
I think that’s the beauty about fictional characters, that they never truly die.
