Have you ever noticed that antis love to tell older fandom people how “pathetic” it is that they’re still part of fandom. “You’re thirty! Stop writing fanfiction and go outside/do your taxes/feed your kids/play bridge/go to work/knit/change your adult diaper/play bingo!”
They seem to think that the majority of our time is spend writing fanfiction.
Like dude? I work full time. And go to school full time. And go hiking with my husband and dogs every weekend. And go out drinking. And go to zoos. And go to to beach. I can write about 5000 words in maybe an intense three hour sitting Saturday night. It’s not a full time job. It’s a hobby, not a way of life.
I love writing fiction but I recognize it’s a small part of me, despite my devotion to it, and I don’t take it too seriously.
For example: I find Kyman gross. Not because I’m offended by the abuse aspect of it but just like, Cartman, get your disgusting hands off my innocent little son! I just am not attracted to Cartman as person. I don’t wanna read porn of him with anybody (okay except Butters.) I love Kyle and want him being coddled by Stan or Christophe or maybe Craig.
But you know what? I can be best friends with Kyman fans. I can talk to them about their ship and listen to them plot their stories. If they want feedback I’ll give it. I’ll usually even read and comment on one or two things I like because they’re my friend, even though I wouldn’t touch the same story by somebody else. Hell, I’ll even write them a Kyman fic as a birthday fic.
See, this is how you don’t take yourself too seriously in fandom. Enjoy what you can. Don’t get angry at other people’s headcanons. And if you get bored of one fandom feel free to move on. Keep the friends you made though.
But somehow I’m the messed up one here. The pathetic one. Because I’m above the age of 25 and I still write fanfiction about cartoon cut out boys. I’m the one taking everything too seriously.
Not the antis threatening to rape/murder me because I prefer cryle over creek.
