Do NOT ask me to support your Christian missionary work.

I will never support Christian missionaries, especially white Christian missionaries.

I am all about spreading the word of God, but there’s just something very no-no-no about white people busting into non-white communities and indigenous cultures to try and “spread the word”. Something pretty obviously no-no-no. *ahem*

These people have most likely already heard about Christ. And if they haven’t, they should have other natives from that area teach them. Not a bunch of white people from a totally different culture/country. Especially not white people.

THANK YOU

Not to mention how missionaries have always been a facet of colonialism and they have historically been (and still are being) used to make Indigenous folks more complacent with the stealing of their land and the oppression that the establishment puts them through. In modern times, missionaries are hired by oil companies to force Indigenous folks into submission so oil companies can drill on their land. This notably happens in South America; my former anthro professor, Larry Ziegler-Otero, worked with the Huaorani people in Ecuador and wrote a book about it. It’s seriously messed up.

Also, missionaries are the reason for the rampant homophobia and transphobia in places like Africa and other colonized or formerly-colonized regions. Almost all Indigenous societies had some sort of recognition of gender and sexuality being more complex than the traditional European binarist view, but that’s one of the first things that missionaries shut down when they enter a community. So no, don’t blame Africans for things like the homophobic laws in Uganda. Blame fucking missionaries. Blame fucking white Christian colonialism.

This all of this, missionaries have always been a pilar of christian oppression, and this has never changed and will never change. Fuck them colonialist garbage who destroy entire cultures and peoples with the mask of “sharing the good news”.

absolutely this.

i am all about christian charity, but missionary work is not charity. it’s marketing.

if you want to hand out clothes, dig wells, build housing, absolutely hit me up for a donation. go roll up your sleeves and pitch in alongside the locals to make life a bit better. THAT is how you spread the word. by being an example of your faith.

God does not need more used car salesmen.
